A Dream to Start Anew

It starts with hope, anticipation,
A dream to start anew.
Resolutions to make life better,
To be more loving and true.

But soon the New Year fades,
Just as the years before;
Nothing truly changed,
We never left the shore.

We scratch our heads and wonder,
Pondering the reasons why.
The difference isn't held in years,
It's inside you and I.

Time is merely a shadow,
A distraction at best;
It moves without our knowing,
Its hope doesn't last.

So as we settle to consider
Just what this New Year will bring,
First think of the Almighty,
The Lord, our King.

For in Him we find our hope,
A dream to start anew.
And when the New Year fades,
He's still there. still loving, still true.
